New Year, New You? Or Same Old, Same Old?

So, we are 2 weeks into January, how are those New Year’s resolutions going?

I know that many of us, set New Year’s resolutions for ourselves with all intentions to stick with them, at least until February.

Why do we do this?

Because as humans, we want to do better, be better, happier, thinner, healthier, whatever our ‘er’ is, we want it.

But if these ‘er’s are actually meant to come off, we need to set down some plans or goals to make this happen. It is not enough to say, I want to be fitter this year and then not say how this will happen, or what the end goal is.

For me, my goal this year is to run the 10km Cheetah Chase in the Dubbo Stampede this year.
Yep - my own BHAG - Big Hairy Audacious Goal. You see, I am a non-runner.

So I have set myself a series of goals to actually make this happen. If I don’t, the likelihood of this occurring is NIL.

I hate running. I am a swimmer.

But I know that if I don’t push myself this way and set plans in place, my BHAG will never happen. I also know that if I don’t put it out there, I will settle for something less, something less than I am capable of. and guess what, so far I can run 3km - yes 3 whole kilometres, without stopping or walking.

Can you believe it? I can’t.

So why this big personal story inside LinkedIn?

Well, because we are in January, the time of resolutions, inspiration, new things.

But don’t talk just about them in January - and don’t hold yourself back either.

Think BIGGER, BETTER, BOLDER

Then once you have that end-point on paper (yes put it on paper, otherwise it is not real)

Brainstorm how you might get there. Think within your business what steps do I need to put in place to make this happen over the coming 12 months. You will surprise yourself that what you thought unattainable suddenly seems within reach.

Again, write this down - it helps it become real.

But whatever you do, don’t just talk - DO.

This is your year, you can do this, we can help.

Put that BHAG out there and go for it.

What have you got to lose?
